SEVEN-CARD STUD WILD

Overview

Seven-Card Stud Wild is the same as regular Seven-Card Stud, but with the King of Hearts as a wild card. The wild card can be used as any rank or suit.

Ante, Bring-In & Betting Limits

The structure is standard Seven-Card Stud. Every player posts a small ante before the deal. After the first three cards, the player showing the lowest door card must open with the forced bring-in (suit order — clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, lowest to highest — breaks ties). That player may post just the bring-in or complete it to a full small bet; going around, each player may fold, call, complete (if no one has yet), or raise.

The game is usually fixed limit with a small bet and a big bet worth double (e.g. $2 / $4). Small bets are used on third and fourth street; big bets on fifth, sixth and seventh. If any player shows an open pair on fourth street, everyone has the option to bet the big bet that round.

How Wild Cards Work

• The King of Hearts can be any rank (A-2-3-4...K)
• The King of Hearts can be any suit (♠♥♦♣)
• If you're dealt the wild card face-up, all players can see it's wild
• If you're dealt the wild card face-down, only you know it's wild
• Wild cards increase the power of your hand significantly

Hand Rankings

The presence of wild cards affects hand rankings. Hands with wild cards are ranked as follows when compared to natural hands:

• Five of a Kind (made with the wild) is the best possible hand — it beats everything, including a Royal Flush
• A Royal Flush (natural or with the wild) ranks second, behind only Five of a Kind
• A hand made with the wild is exactly as strong as the same hand made naturally — the wild becomes the card, and identical hands split the pot
• The hand is named by the card the wild becomes — four sevens plus the wild is Five Sevens
• Five of a kind of Kings is the one hand that can't happen — the King of Hearts is busy being the wild

Strategy

• The wild card dramatically increases hand values
• If you catch the King of Hearts, your hand strength increases tremendously
• If an opponent shows the King of Hearts upcard, they have a very strong hand
• Drawing to a flush or straight becomes easier with a wild card
• Be aware that opponents might have the wild card and play accordingly

Examples

If you have (wild) :

• The wild card completes a straight flush!
• You can make A-2-3-4-5 straight flush OR 2-3-4-5-6 straight flush

If you have (wild) :

• The wild counts as a third Ace - now you have Three Aces!
• This is a very strong hand

Key Considerations

• Wild cards create bigger pots and more action
• Hands that would be mediocre become strong with the wild
• Bluffing becomes more difficult because hand values increase
• Pay attention to whether the wild card has been dealt

Strategy Tips

• If you catch the wild card early, you have a huge advantage
• If someone shows the wild upcard, treat them as having a premium hand
• Drawing hands (straights, flushes) become much better
• Be ready for bigger swings in wild card games
